Immigration

The population of the United States has historically been comprised of individuals from foreign countries who sought the opportunities that living in America brought them.  The opportunities afforded to citizens inherently brings responsibilities that ensure that we continue to enjoy those opportunities that allow us to be prosperous.  As a lawmaker, it is our responsibility to set out a common-sense process for immigrants to take on a path to citizenship.  We need to emphasize the importance of becoming a citizen for those who immigrate to the United States.   The revamping of our E-Verify system as a modern approach to becoming a citizen is an absolutely priority, as well as continuing to secure our borders as a way of encouraging immigrants to begin the path to full citizenship.  To eliminate the complicated and time-consuming process of applying for citizenship to the United States, additional infrastructure within our legal system is crucial to making the path to citizenship more desirable to those wishing to become a citizen.   We also need provide new safeguards to help track those who are seeking asylum, refuges and those with student visas that protects both immigrants and the rights of citizens who are already a United States citizen.
